last week, I released my sixth song and reflection post called song: burn to ashes

these feel: blog posts invite you to take a moment and reflect, listen to its paired song and follow through my own exercise to explore your feelings, write them out, add some colour, visualize and breathe it through.

so i invite you to take a moment to reflect and feel too!  maybe we'll discover something together or face something new and unfamiliar, let's feel together <3

Here's to us rising from the ashes, burning whatever needs to be let go, and letting the pain go, letting it rain and letting the sunshine again. I definitely feel like all my songs share a very similar narrative and some kind of mention of either the sunset, sunshine, sunrise or the clouds. There's always this season and weather kind of picture that I always paint, and that's how we go through life, through the seasons.

I'm looking for a bit of feedback on the formatting so far for these infographics.

I don't label at the top what page or part it is, would it be more helpful? Or is it fine, because there are step numbers.

I'd love to hear what you think in the comment section :)

The step-by-step follow along photos will be first, if you scroll to the bottom, there will be written instructions!

For the lovelies who prefer written instructions, here they are!

  • Grab a pencil or pen, we are using colours this time (markers, crayons, whichever)

    • please have orange, red, yellow, grey and black available

  • 2 piece of papers, a notebook, anything,

  • softly ask and explore these questions (whether you think or jot some things)

This is a two part prompt, that asks two questions to help identify what you'd like to let go of and then how you will heal from those things

QUESTION 1:

what are some things you want to burn to ashes? to let go of the pain, let it rain and let the sun shine again?

QUESTION 2:

how do you want to rise from the ashes? to heal from the pain, let it rain and let the sun shine again?

  1. this prompt is about reflecting on things you want to burn to ashes and then how you want to rise from those ashes, to let go of the pain, heal from it, let it rain and let the sun shine again. (yes they're direct lyric from my song)

  2. for this exercise, we'll be needing two pages, we are drawing on these pages vertically, portrait orientation

  3. because we are drawing flames, I highly encourage having the following colours:

  4. when you draw your flames, please leave space under your fires to write the prompt

  5. on the left page using red and grey, start to draw strokes going up randomly, that shape to make out a fire with many flames, add grey ashes on the bottom of the fire

  6. grow your fire by adding flames or strokes of yellow, orange, grey and red, accentuate that there are ashes by adding black

  7. add ashes and smoke around the top of your fire

  8. from the left page to the right draw ashes that are flying and settling over onto the right side of the page (as if they were being blown by the wind)

  9. on the right side of the page we have ashes on the ground and with RED, draw a small spark in the middle of the ashes,

  10. draw some smoke strokes using the GREY , this smoke will look almost like a Y, where it goes up and the splits into two

  11. using YELLOW, ORANGE, and RED, we are going to make a heart like shape with curved lines, that rise from the ashes and the smoke

  12. artist's choice, you can add more ashes at the bottom of the right side flame

  13. write the following prompts underneath each flame

  14. write out your answers in and around the fire for each prompt in step 13

And with that, you have a narrative and visual reflection on things you actively work towards burning to ashes (letting go of) and then rise from the ashes (through healing and inviting better things).

As noted in my infographic's last part, this prompt took me a bit longer as I sincerely thought and reflected on the questions, they have be a reflective and healing perspective to take with me along this journey

To share apart of my answers:

  • I want to burn my disbelief and discomfort about myself as an artist and musician

    • I usually don't label or identify myself, it's a work of untangling some imposter syndrome and whether or not I meet my expectations or am aligning to what my true definition of those things are

  • I want to rise from the ashes by

    • giving myself more recognition for my healing journey

    • there are a lot of things I bypass without celebrating or being proud, returning to complete my degree and doing this project are a big part of it

    • I simply forget or push aside how much effort and work it took to really reset and be here - definitely linked to my past song release: song: build a space

I invite you to try out this prompt in the best way you show up for it! If you'd like to share your flames, comment below or in my new community space forum section!

I hope this little reflect and feel post is something you can take-away and try to do for yourself. As I experiment with this creative journey and building community, I am open to any suggestions, feedbacks or comments on the formatting or segments.

And if you reach the end of this, thank you for sharing this space with me.

Lots of love.

Take care always.
