hi, for this week, there are two songs.

these two songs are very significant in my journey of how songwriting, art, journalling, has held a space for my mental health, well-being and ultimately my healing.

this blog post is a more lengthier one, and includes scanned pictures of my own journal entry that I did for these two songs.

This excerpt is from a word document called "Thoughts on Butterfly" written in 2016.

My interpretation of the song is that it talks of this butterfly and the singer, whom I’ll call the person or narrator of the song. This butterfly is seen to have many worries and covers all of them with a smile as read in the first verse. The narrator asks if it’s true, that the butterfly left on its own. In denial of it, the narrator says untrue. It goes on as the person acknowledges that the butterfly is out of its darkness and that it is free but still scared if it’ll break, the person asks if it’ll be okay. The person continues to question time and if it could go back as they regret the things they never did and at the same time, never wanting to leave the butterfly behind. The chorus explains that the butterfly is flying away and that it is gone. The 2nd verse shows the feelings of the person, of how their heart broke down with nothing to say when hearing the news of her butterfly flying away, with wings that were shattered all the time but picked up to fly away. Another view is that, it could be the butterfly’s feelings, feeling alone and worried while anxiety built up to another break down. It continues with the person sharing more regrets on the days passing by and realizing that it’s too late. How, what’s done is done. Another pre-chorus and chorus comes once again. The bridge is the final last plea for the butterfly to come back, to come safe to the person again. The person calls out for the final time and says I miss you. The ending chorus, closing the story, the story of turmoil in the butterfly and the person. The final last words, the final last acknowledgement, the final letting go, when the person finally says “Butterfly, like a butterfly. One day, one day. You were gone.”

Most Powerful Statement of the Song:

I feel like the most powerful statement of this song is:

“The feeling of your heart break down and you have nothing to say. Your tears fall down, everything fades away and your world breaks.”

I believe that this is the most powerful statement of the song because it shows the comparison between the butterfly and the person. Both of their feelings put into one, the many times of the butterfly’s world breaking and also the breaking of the person’s world. It is kind of paradoxical. This song was meant to show the feelings of the person, all the unkempt but concealed feelings of the passing time since then.

With the release of these two songs, I find it rather scary? Not sure if that is the right emotion, I find it very vulnerable, and also very heart-breaking, and also cathartic?

A part of my heart wants to find connection, and healing with this grief, but not by myself.

Due to the heaviness of this subject, I will not be writing an extensive prompt to reflect and answer. I open the floor for any messages of support. any stories or memories of your passed ones, or current loved ones.

Specifically for me, I am reminded of my best friend anytime I see tangy zangy candy and fuzzy peaches. Also, a gift they had given to me, sits on my desk, it is the blue glass quote, that you see in my recorded videos.

As I close out the year 2023, I am wishing you many blessings and opportunities for the year ahead. Wishing only the best and better for 2024 to be filled with lots of joy, love, rest, abundance, healing and whatever you need.

Take care always,
